GENERAL INFORMATION

What is Dialysis?

Dialysis is a treatment for kidney disease which helps to rid the body of toxins, waste products as well as excess fluid. This process is achieved by filtering the person’s blood using an artificial kidney. Thus dialysis takes the place of some kidney function which will help the person live longer. Dialysis performs the function of the kidneys by cleaning the blood.

There are two types of Dialysis;
  1. Haemodialysis
  2. Peritoneal dialysis.
QECH dialysis unit, however, only offers Haemodialysis. In Haemodialysis, the patient’s blood is passed through an artificially made kidney machine which filters the blood as would be done by the actual kidneys.
