Dentistry is the science of the treatment of oral conditions and other conditions that affect the teeth and gums especially the repair and extraction of teeth and the insertion of artificial teeth. The department of dentistry at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital is the main referral centre for oral conditions in the southern region in particular and Malawi in general. It also serves as an academic centre for Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES), Malawi College of Health Sciences (MCHS). 

The department has also a laboratory department which makes dentures, crown and bridges, orthodontic appliances and obturators

Since its establishment the department has seen a number of face lifts due to renovations taking place in the department.
